Member-only story
The process is generating hundreds of ideas in very little time with your target group.
The 635 Method of 635 brainwriting is the process of generating up to 188 ideas in around 30 minutes.
It’s a brainstorming technique developed by German sales magazine in 1968, but as well as generally being for brainstorming it works incredibly well for user-centred design sessions.
6 participants and a moderator are required, the role of the moderator is to supervise the sessions.
Participants will need a worksheet each with 3 idea columns, participants will write down 3 ideas in 5 minutes and will then pass their ideas onto the next participant (passing to the right) where the ideas will be developed into other ideas, inspiring and developing new ideas and existing ones. Ideas can be graphics or drawings or can they can text.
There must be a clear challenge to solve, this is the topic. But everyone must clearly understand what the challenge is.
The procedure
The topic (challenge to solve) is set by the moderator.
Participants write down the topic
Participants then write down 3 ideas across the three columns in 5 minutes (the moderator keeps time)
Participants then pass their worksheet to the participant on the right and then next 5 minutes begins.
